Copper

It had been three weeks since our Bassett hound Molly passed . We missed her and found that while we did not think another dog was in our future, it was early April, 2011 when we found ourselves looking for a new dog. Since our last 2 dogs were rescue bassets, we found the need to look for a breed that was entirely different. With four grandchildren under the age of 10, our breed choice had to be one that got along well with children. We looked at hundreds of photos of dogs, but still couldn’t find that special one for us. It was then that Frank suggested a Vizsla as he was familiar with the breed as a former owner decades ago.

With a quick query to Google, Stephanie Fischer was our first call. After a long conversation, she advised that she had a “goofy” guy who she thought would be perfect. We arranged a visit to her home in Long Island the following weekend and found our match made in heaven. Copper was busy playing with Stephanie’s dogs, but after a few rounds of throwing the tennis ball, we bonded quickly. A walk in the neighborhood with his former owner sealed the deal as he anxiously jumped into our Jeep for the ride to his new home. After a short stop to run on the beach at Sherwood Island in Westport, CT we arrived home with our new companion. Copper got us trained quickly.

To this day, he starts bedtime in his usual crate, but like clockwork, within 3 minutes he sneaks out to the guest room where he finds complete comfort in the king size bed. Yet, every morning at 4 am, he comes and joins us under the covers in our bed for quality family time. Taking hikes in the beautiful Litchfield hills along rolling streams and fetching the tennis ball are favorite past times of his. However, with summer upon us, evening swims at Mohawk Pond is a relaxing treat. Copper has a truly goofy personality that suits us perfectly. He loves to cuddle, catch bugs, take car rides, snuggle on the couch and play with the grandchildren. We will be forever grateful to Stephanie for matching us with Copper…our match made in heaven.
