BB-8
Dave and I were at a family member’s wedding when I saw Stephanie’s post about the vizsla puppies in Vermont that needed homes. We had been sharing posts of vizslas in rescues back and forth for a few months, but until then, none of them were a good match for our pack. I filled out the application right away and Stephanie called me back later that day!
A few days later, we left our other two v’s, Quinnie and Maggie, at home and drove from Rochester, NY, to Vermont to pick up BB-8 (formerly Archie). When we got there, BB-8 had been rolling around in poop with one of his brothers, and we should have known it was a sign of what was to come 🙂 I named our first v, Quinnie, and Maggie came already named, so it was Dave’s turn to pick a name. As a giant nerd and fan of Star Wars, and in reference to the adorable orange droid, he chose BB-8.
BB-8 was very shy and nervous when we got him and terrified of new people and the vet. He didn’t want to go on walks and, surprisingly, was not very food-motivated. But, once we figured out that he loved to play with toys, and especially loved balls, it was game on from then. Following the example set by Quinnie and Maggie he has become more confident over time and now loves going for walks and meeting new dogs. He can still be cautious around strangers but will warm up into a wriggly goofball once he gets to know them.
BB-8 is a delightful rascal who loves balls and frisbees above all else. When the balls have been put away, he will often take himself out the dog door into the yard and return with ball-like items he can play with, like pinecones, black walnuts, or occasionally a shoe! He loves romping around the park near our house, snuggling with his sisters, meeting new dogs, and sleeping under the covers. He and Maggie, our 12-year-old rescue, are especially close. We are so happy with BB-8 and think he is pretty happy too!
