Kita
Before we describe our recent experience adopting Kita from the Long Island VIzsla Rescue organization, we wanted to provide a little background on how we got to this point. We adopted our first Vizsla, Miles, approximately 13 years ago. We adopted Miles (formerly known as Sam) from The VIzsla Club of Central New England (VCCNE). Miles was everything to us; he was our fur baby, our best friend our travel buddy and my running partner. He went everywhere with us and not having children, was a focal point in our home and lives. We lost him to osteosarcoma approximately two years ago. Aside from losing both my parents, needing to put him down was the single most painful experience of my life. I swore that November night in 2016 that I would never go through that kind of agony again.
Enter KIta: I wasn’t sure I was ready for another dog, when my wife and I began discussing how the house was so much more joyful when we had Miles. She began to check the VCCNE website this summer looking for possible rescues, but there never were any available. She asked if she could/should submit an application just in case one should come up over the next several months. You can imagine how surprised and excited we were when Stephanie FIscher reached out to us (the VCCNE had shared our information with the Long Island chapter) informing us that 5 year old KIta was available for adoption.
Fast forward to August 9th when we met our new baby in PIttsfield, MA. We met her and instantly fell in love. Since that day she has brought so much love, happiness, joy and of course...noise into our home. Her days (and ours) are now filled with trail walks, swims in the creeks and in our pool as well as meeting new friends in the neighborhood. We could not be happier with her.
We would be remiss if we did not mention how much we appreciated all the support and consultation we received from Stephanie FIscher. She checked in on us every night for the first few weeks to make sure everything was going well and made herself available to answer all our questions and concerns. Kita developed a minor ear infection early on causing her to incessantly shake her head at night. We never experienced this with MIles, so we were obviously a bit concerned. After texting her one night, she immediately got back to us and correctly diagnosed (by long distance, of course), the ear infection. We got her in to see a vet that weekend and quickly remedied the problem.
In summary, we couldn’t be happier that KIta has entered our lives. She’s brought so much joy and happiness into our home at a time it was sorely needed.
Kind regards,
