Sammy
Our Story about Sammy.
We adopted our first vizsla rescue in 1997 in California. Our vizsla rescue had quite a few issues and at times we really felt like throwing in the towel. After about a year of working through those issues, she became the most wonderful dog and the kids just adored her. I think she was grateful that we didn't give up on her and we were glad we didn't. A year later we decided that Kirsten needed a little vizsla buddy and we adopted a little male vizsla puppy. At first Kirsten didn't want anything to do with him, she was rather upset that we got another dog, but after 5-6 months, they were inseparable. This is how we became Vizsla people.
Six years ago Kirsten was diagnosed with Mast cell and Cushing’s disease. Zeus was diagnosed with lung cancer two years ago. Both dogs died this year within 6 months of each other at the age of 13 and 15 years old. We were devastated to lose our beloved dogs and didn't have the heart to tell our son, who was serving in Iraq at that time, that the dogs had passed away. When my husband was outside tending to the yard one day, he saw a lady walking her vizsla. After talking to her he found out that she adopted 2 vizslas from a rescue group. She put us in touch with Stephanie Fischer .
Shortly after that we received a phone call from Stephanie stating she might have a rescue for us in Virginia. In the meantime our son had come home from Iraq and he and I drove down to Virginia to meet Laurie and Sammy. We fell in love with Sammy and took him home with us. We are thrilled to have Sammy in our family. He is the most lovable, loyal and of course handsome dog. We couldn't ask for a better dog. When I walk him every day, people always comment on what a beautiful well behaved dog he is. He sleeps with my son almost every night and has to be with us or next to us all the time. He is truly a Velcro dog :) We want to thank Stephanie for making this happen and Laurie for letting us adopt Sammy.
Thank you Stephanie and Laurie! A very grateful family, The Stewart's
